Ideally, a smart home system is an unobtrusive companion in everyday life that links individual devices and can be intuitively controlled via app, wireless switch or even voice assistance. A distinction is made between three different types of smart home systems: the open, the semi-open and the closed system. The closed system is considered the most secure, but here users are limited to products from their manufacturer. In an open system, on the other hand, devices from different manufacturers can be controlled with a single app.
The applications for smart home services are enormously versatile. For example, smart LEDs can be used to control lighting, or smart radiators and underfloor heating can be used to control the temperature in a room. Another area of application is entertainment (e.g., through smart TVs) and security. Here, mainly intrusion and fire sensors or even air quality sensors are used.
